Ten story directions and how to choose one

Try ten starting directions: a harbour mystery, city reunion, fantasy journey, space mission, historical letters, workplace decision, family secret, light comedy, coming-of-age story or repaired relationship. These are creative options, not a popularity ranking.

Choose the conflict you most want to write. A character facing a deadline and another holding an incomplete truth often creates a scene more readily than a pile of genre labels.

Write a small scene to test voice and pace. You can discuss two options and select one without generating an entire novel to explore an idea.

Give characters specific, credible backgrounds. Adult themes require fictional adults and current content boundaries. Let choices and consequences carry the story.
